An expert with head for winning
Torquay Herald Express
RICHARD Collins was still at school when he realised that brain is just as important as brawn if you want to be a success in the sporting field. Now he is passing on that lesson to others with the slogan 'Head for a Win', the name of the sport, exercise and business consultancy he has just set up in Kingsbridge. Richard faced a choice of three subjects to specialise in when he had to decide which career to follow. It was former PE teacher Julie Hooton who helped make up his mind to plump for sport. "It was her module in Sport Psychology that inspired me one day to make that my career," he said.
"Sport and Exercise Psychology is a relatively new field but I feel it has a tremendous potential. "The practice is growing and it can give you that winning edge to overcome your opponent." Since then, two degrees have put him in the final stage to become a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist. There are only four others at this level in the UK, none in the South West. Part of his work will be to assist people who are struggling to complete the exercise they need to live a healthy lifestyle. He also plans to set up a programme for children with weight problems. He is offering free initial consultations and can be contacted on 07769 906268 or email richard@headforawin.co.uk
